The host of your show is not what he seems to be. Donald Trump on TV: calculating decisionmaker, ruthless corporate assassin, titan of business. Donald Trump in TrumpNation: prone to screw-ups, entertainingly BIZARRE, stumbling with people, befuddled in business. This book is so accurate and broad that you finish in a state of disbelief about how Trump has gotten over on all of us for so long. Once the author grabs hold of Trump he doesn't let go, and you wonder why Trump cooperated to the degree that he did. There are exchanges between Trump and O'Brien that are priceless and Trump clearly believed he was going to seduce the writer I think. Well, the result is hilarious and instructive and Trump does not come out on top. This book has a lot to say and it says it quickly and unrelentingly. I really enjoyed it!!

A biography that deserves wide attention in this election season. Trump sued to stop it, not because he thought it was unfavorable to him, but simply because it estimated his net worth at much less than Trump claimed. Trump lost. The book is full of enlightening details of Trump's business failures and successes.

Despite the age of this book, it's even more timely now than when it was originally written. If you want to find out about the man behind the self-created myth, this is a good place to start. Be warned: you will not sleep well afterwards. Reading it, one feels like a steerage passenger aboard the Titanic reading a book about hypothermia.

Excellent book. It's not mean, just an honest look at Donald Trump. Not a biography. Sort of a running interview, interspersed with factual context. That's important because Trump isn't big on facts.

Enjoyed it and got a better idea of the man. He's not a cartoon character, just someone enjoying the limelight and perks of wealth, whether or not he has them.

In this election year, he is great for forcing issues into the forefront, not something other candidates are really good at. Likewise, he's not meant for high office, maybe any office. He's for show, and doing a good job that way. Just for show.

Biographers and analysts keep chipping away at Donald Trump, hoping to eventually reach the core, the bottom line, the ultimate truth. New York Times journalist Timothy L. O'Brien seems to have gotten closer than anyone else who has recently chosen to tackle this subject. During the past decade, he has interviewed and interacted with Trump a number of times -- sometimes even at the m/billionaire's request. He certainly has had access to the man and his colleagues. The result is TRUMPNATION, a readable and fascinating book about someone who, for whatever reason, continues to fascinate the American public. At least for now.

You've got to get past the book jacket first, past the stoic image of Trump in a superhero action-figure-like stance. The star (savior?) of his own universe. Is that how he sees himself? Should we? O'Brien more often likens him to showman P.T. Barnum, and Trump does little to dispel this notion. He's even quoted as claiming, "I am going to put show business into real estate. I'll have the best of both worlds." (p. 53) He inflates any number that comes his way, from his own net worth to the floor count of his buildings. The best evidence of this disparity comes in two lists found in the "TrumpBroke" chapter. The first shows Donald's inconsistent Forbes 400 ratings for the past 23 years. The second one lists Trump's current properties and projects and what Donald says they're worth. When the latter is compared with a similar list found in the back of his own book from 2004, "Trump: How to Get Rich," the two just don't match up. What a difference a year can make! But you also have to consider the source. O'Brien refers to all of the books Trump has penned as "nonfiction works of fiction" and "a tour of the business world according to Mister Id.

Even though it was published in 2005, Timothy O'Brien's book on Donald Trump is still one of the two or three best books on Donald Trump, and little if any of it is out of date. It's still a good portrait of Trump, and it's a good read.

O'Brien, a reporter with The New York Times, and his publisher, Warner Books, was sued for $5 billion by Trump because of alleged damages to Trump due to O'Brien's reporting about Trump's net worth not being what he then claimed it was. After many years and much legal expense, Trump's suit was dismissed and the dismissal confirmed by an appellate court. The suit tells you a lot about Trump's view of the First Amendment.

Excellent journalistic account contrasting the facts of the Short Fingered Vulgarian's many business failures with Der Apfelstrudelfuhrer's spin about himself. The man routinely cheated investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars, while using the businesses he controlled to pay off his personal debts and fund his lavish lifestyle. Very readable insight into a puerile, arrested adolescent, trust fund baby. The guy bankrupted three casinos at a time when casino gambling was enjoying a nationwide boom: but he achieved his one goal, being the center of attention.

This is a very direct look at Trump written by a man who was able to get close to him and wants people to know that he was not impressed. Not at all. He makes a case for Trump as bully and blowhard. Read it before you vote.
